The activists who were victims during the June 20 events filed a letter to the EU Delegation to Carl Hartzel and Kelly Degnan.
Affected citizens are asking for help from mediators to prevent the implementation of bills registered in the parliament.
As they themselves say, the amnesty bill initiated by the ruling party and the parliamentary opposition is unacceptable, because in both of them the amnesty is declared on the article of abuse of power, by which most of the cases are initiated.
First of all, thank you for your efforts to overcome the political crisis in Georgia. We especially appreciate the support and assistance of our most important strategic partners, the United States and the European Union, in such a time of crisis for our country.
Citizens of Georgia, who on June 20, 2019, protested against the fact that in a politician of an occupying country hostile to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country, chaired the meeting in our legislature and apart from national security, and we believe that this fact was incompatible and dangerous to our countries European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations
Brute disproportionate force was used against us as peaceful demonstrators on the basis of an illegal order by Georgian law enforcement officers. The shooting continued for hours, causing life-threatening damage to the demonstrators. Hundreds of people were injured, including 38 journalists. Authorities say 240 people were taken to hospital on the night of June20. Some of the demonstrators received severe bodily injuries, the incomplete list of which includes numerous bullet wounds, various fractures of the body, fractures of the face and skull, and numerous cases of loss of eyes and eyesight.
Some of the demonstrators are still undergoing treatment. It is noteworthy that severely injured people face problems from the authorities due to inadequate attention and assistance. The state recognized only 7 protesters as victims. More than 50 demonstrators are seeking victim status in local and international courts and compensation for physical and moral damage.
A large number of peaceful demonstrators were arrested the same night, and hundreds of activists had to spend several days in jail on administrative charges. Criminal proceedings were also instituted against up to 20 protesters and they had to spend months in jail. Against this background, the prosecutor's office launched criminal proceedings against only 3 law enforcement officers. And no person issuing the illegal order has been identified in the last 2 years.
Therefore, we believe that the bills registered by the ruling party and the parliamentary opposition on the amnesty of the events of June 19-21 on the basis of the April 19 agreement, which distribute amnesty to virtually all leaders and executors behind the crackdown of the rally, serve only as a principle of irresponsibility of the government. We believe that turning a blind eye to the violation of fundamental human rights will have additional serious consequences and will damage the West's reputation in Georgia as a defender of democratic values, as well as encourage the syndrome of impunity and give the green light to other serious violations. Please help our country get out of the political crisis so that aggrieved peaceful protesters retain their right to a judicial war for their violated rights and receive government guarantees for their recovery.
"We express our willingness to participate in thematic meetings and discussions on this issue, if you wish," the appeal reads.
