The joint letter by EU Ambassador to Georgia Carl Hartzell and US Ambassador Kelly Degnan, in which mediator ambassadors warn and give strict instructions to the ruling team not to carry out appointments to the High Council of Justice without electoral reform, is being evaluated by the opposition
Opponents of the ruling team say the ambassadors' appeal is noteworthy and once again indicates that the early conference scheduled for the High Council of Justice runs counter to the spirit of a document by the European Council President Charles Michel. "The letter says in black on white, you are behaving very badly” said Levan Khabeishvili, a member of the United National Movement. According to him, "the ruling party does not take the necessary measures and behaves so badly that the diplomats had to publish the letter."
Elene Khoshtaria, the leader of the “Droa” movement, said it was "noteworthy that in the letter the ambassadors reminded the ruling team of sanctions" if it violated the April 19 agreement.
According to Otar Kakhidze, a member of European Georgia, the ruling team is clearly violating its obligations set on them under the April 19 agreement.
As for "Lelo", the party demands the postponement of the conference until the relevant changes in the justice reform are adopted. "This conference will be perceived by us as a step against the Charles Michel document," said Badri Japridze.
For reference, the XXIX early Conference was scheduled for May 26 at the High Council of Justice, at which it is planned to elect 4 members of the High Council of Justice of Georgia. The term expires for 4 judges - Dimitri Gvritishvili, Vasil Mshvenieradze, Irakli Bondarenko and Irakli Shengelia. Non-governmental organizations also issued a statement demanding the suspension of the conference.
