The meeting between the opposition signatories of the Charles Michel’s document and the “Georgian Dream” had ended. The sides could not come to an agreement on the amnesty bill. Today, the Georgian Dream intends to adopt their version of the amnesty bill in the first reading.
As the leader of "Lelo" Badri Japaridze explained to the journalists, the ruling party will take into consideration the remarks of the opposition regarding the amnesty bill during the second reading.
"Georgian Dream says that the second reading will take into account a number of remarks that were made, but today they are going to present their project in the first reading, which will not take into account our remarks," - said Badri Japaridze.
As for the positions of the parties, the representatives of the parliamentary opposition say that the amnesty should refer to specific articles and not to June 20 as an event.
We are talking about Articles 225, Organizing Violence and Article 333, Part 3, Subparagraph "b" - abuse of power by high-ranking officials.
The representatives of the ruling party, on the other hand state that the amnesty bill should encompass June 20, as an event. “Georgian Dream” also keeps the part which, the opposition says is about Nika Melia specifically. The members of “Georgian Dream” say, that the opposition should support the bill.
