Take all measures to protect freedom of expression - MEPs address Gomelauri

MEPs have issued a joint letter calling on Georgian Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri to effectively protect protesters during the march. They call on the authorities to protect the Tbilisi Pride protesters and ensure their freedom of expression

MEPs also respond to the statement of Irakli Kobakhidze, the chairman of the Georgian Dream, and note that he opposes universal human rights.

The joint statement is signed by 28 MEPs.

“It is thus in this spirit of support we address you, Minister in order to ask not only that the pride is, in line with the universal right of peaceful assembly and freedom of expression, effectively allowed, but also that all the preparations be taken so as to ensure the effective enjoyment of the manifestants’ right to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, all the while availing themselves of authorities’ protection
