The Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission, Tamar Zhvania, has resigned

Published:

She published an extensive post about it on her Facebook page. She said she would no longer serve as chairwoman as of July 1. According to Zhvania, this will allow political parties to elect the chairman of the CEC on the basis of the updated Electoral Code.

"Although by law I could have continued working in the administration for two more years, I believe that the election rules adopted under the Charles Michel Agreement have opened up a new reality.

I am confident that my decision will increase the possibility of constructive relations between political forces, which in turn will help the electoral administration, the upcoming electoral process and our country as a whole," Tamar Zhvania wrote.

Tamar Zhvania has been chairing the CEC for almost 8 years. Zhvania writes that she won't give any additional interviews or comments to the media.
