Now you face the danger of your reputation falling apart - Daniel Hamilton

British political reviewer Daniel Hamilton, in an interview with the “Mtavari Channel” speaks about the political situation in Georgia. Hamilton says, that he doesn’t understand what the Georgian people like in the ruling party and why do they keep voting for them.

Also, according to him, Georgia is now on an important transitory step, and it's important, for Georgians to stay united:

“I want to say a few words to the supporters of the ruling party: I don’t know what you, as Georgians, see in this government. Georgians are a proud people, who for many hundreds of years went through a lot, including occupations and repressions. Your country was conquered by foreign nations, and you fought a lot for decades, to gain your independence, the freedom of press, to safeguard the rights of minorities in this nation and I don’t see what the people who vote for Bidzina Ivanishvili and Irakli Gharibashvili see in this government. Perhaps they think that they are strong, or are the kind of people who push for Georgian values. But these Georgian values, as I know, are not based on homophobia, intolerance and division. Therefore, now it's of utmost importance for Georgians to stand together and to return to the road of democracy. You have many friends, who want your entry into the NATO and the EU. Now you face the danger of your reputation falling apart. Imagine, that it's 11 o’clock now and at 12 o’clock, you will lose all your opportunities. We will not allow this.

The British reviewer also notes that the current situation in Georgia is also the responsibility of the partners, as they should not allow the country to return to Russia again:

"Georgia's democracy is truly worth fighting for, and this democracy is in the hands of Georgians, so Georgians should put pressure on their own government to step back and not follow a very dangerous path. However, it is also the responsibility of Georgia's friends to put maximum pressure on the Georgian government. If Bidzina Ivanishvili continues this path of violence and its encouragement, then this great plan of Georgia’s entry into the EU will not be achieved. I will be heartbroken, if this country once again falls into the swamp pits of Russian influence. Everything is in the hand of Georgians; they must show initiative and make change” – said Hamilton

According to him, Gharibashvili should definitely resign because his statements serve to encourage violence.

"I think there can be no debate on this issue, the Prime Minister should resign. His statements are provocative, his comments are damaging and throw into the water everything that has been achieved recently to raise the image of Georgia as a tourist country and a nation with the best business environment," he said.
