Nika Melia, the chairman of the United National Movement, is expected to be the sole candidate of the opposition in the self-government elections in Tbilisi.

Opposition representatives say that the consultations for a joint candidate are ongoing, and a final decision will be made in a few days.

"Nika Melia is the closest to being a united candidate. This week is the last days when we talk about the details with other opposition parties, all parties are involved here, both parliamentary, main opposition forces, and non-parliamentary parties," Khatia Dekanoidze said.

Members of "European Georgia" support Nika Melia's candidacy, the party thinks that the coordination of the opposition on the mayoral candidates is important. Melia also has support in the non-parliamentary opposition, including the United Georgia and the Tribuna political movement.

As for the other opposition parties, the positions of the party "Lelo" and "Girchi - More Freedom" are still unknown.

The leader of "Lelo" says that the party will announce its decision in a few days.

"Our position is that Lelo will present its position to Georgia in the coming days, how we are going to participate in the self-government elections, wherein the most important issue is that the Georgian Dream must not be able to achieve 43% of the votes," said Lelo leader Badri Japaridze.

Giorgi Vashadze, the leader of the Strategy Builder, says that he will not support Nika Melia's candidacy. In Vashadze's opinion, it is necessary to form a third force for the self-government elections.
