The Georgian Charter of Journalistic Ethics responds to the Georgian Dream and reiterates that the mayor, Kakhi Kaladze, has indeed equated violence with the activities of journalists.
According to the director of the Charter, it is unacceptable when a politician justifies the violent actions that took place on July 5.
"Kakhi Kaladze really equated the violent actions with the activities of journalists. It is unacceptable for us when a politician speaks and actually justifies the violent actions that took place on July 5 and as a result of which more than 53 media representatives were injured.
"In the statement, we read that his words were addressed to the public, and he was also referring to the TV broadcasts. However, if we listen to Kakhi Kaladze's explanation, there was no indication that he was addressing TV broadcasts alongside the people, instead he was talking directly about Telemedia and TV broadcasts," said the Georgian journalists Ethics Charter Director, Mariam Gogosashvili.
