"It is alarming that the financial police entered the Mtavari Channel, which was recently announced in a repressive fashion by Irakli Kobakhidze, from the Georgian Dream," Elene Khoshtaria said at an emergency In connection with the Mtavari channel's sales house.

She said that after the death of Lekso Lashkarava, instead of the government investigating the case, on the contrary, journalists have to work daily under the danger of violence.

"It is clear that this is part of political repression. It is taking place in a very dangerous context, in the face of the media, in the face of targeted violence and attacks. This is done with the direct instruction, organization, examples of the high-ranking officials of the Georgian Dream, which seen with the bandit like actions of Tea Tsulukiani's against the 'Mtavari' journalist," Khoshtaria said.

According to her, we must understand that "the media is the only institution that, despite many attempts, could not be captured by the oligarchic regime."

"We see that today, in the face of these repressions and attacks, the media is in an unprecedentedly consolidated, in an unprecedentedly active civic position, fighting and defending not only its own rights but the freedoms of absolutely every citizen in this country. We must understand that the media does not work for itself. They do not serve their own television, they serve all the citizens of this country, their interest is to have objective information, to have their rights protected and for us  to be a normal civilized and protected society," he said.

Elene Khoshtaria also expressed solidarity with the journalists working under these threats and called on the public that "if we lose the media, we will all lose our freedom, peace and security."

Khoshtaria also addressed the authorities and told them that fighting the media will not be tolerated, and that it is the duty of all politicians to protect the media.
