Regarding the agreement signed with the Security Service of Belarus, the SSG issues a statement and writes that a similar agreement has been signed with the European Union and NATO countries.
According to the agency, the agreement does not oblige the parties to take action that is contrary to the state interests of the parties.
The Agreement on Cooperation between the State Security Service of Georgia and the State Security Committee of the Republic of Belarus was signed in 2016. Following the signing of the agreement, the Georgian authorities took all necessary steps to bring the document into force, and the Republic of Belarus enacted the document signed in 2016 in August of this year, about which information was made available through the media.
The agreement aims to co-operate between the parties in the fight against international and transnational organized crime, terrorism, corruption and other risks to state security.
The state voluntarily changes the information in the fight against crime in accordance with its interests. Accordingly, this agreement does not oblige the parties to take action that is contrary to the state interests of the parties.
The Georgian State Security Service has similar law enforcement cooperation with a number of partner countries around the world, including the United States, Britain, France, Lithuania, and other NATO and EU countries.
The disinformation campaign launched around this issue once again confirms that the State Security Service is being deliberately discredited. The use of international agreements in the process of discrediting the country's security and law enforcement agencies is a matter of particular concern, as it may harm Georgia's state interests, Liluashvili's office said in a statement.
