According to the Public Defender Nino Lomjaria, the case of Vakho Sanaia's attack is the subject of special attention of the Ombudsman. Lomjaria assessed the media environment in the country and said that violence against journalists has increased recently, and such actions remain unpunished.
Lomjaria also responded to the violence against journalists on July 5, saying that despite sufficient evidence, the organizers of the violence have so far gone unpunished.
"Cases like this and this case are the subject of our special attention. Recently, there have been very frequent physical or verbal reports and insults against journalists, and in many cases such actions either go unpunished or the investigation is delayed.
I also believe that the organizers of the violence against journalists on July 5 are currently unpunished, they have not even been prosecuted, although I believe that there is enough evidence to bring charges against specific individuals. There is a tendency in the country when we see that the crimes committed against journalists are not effectively investigated," Lomjaria said.
