Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili says the government has decided to refrain from receiving a second tranche of EU financial assistance. Gharibashvili names the reduction of foreign debt as the reason, he claims that the country has started to reduce its debt gradually.
The case concerns the second part of € 75 million in aid from the European Union.
"This year, since we have started reducing foreign debt, there is a high probability that it will no longer be necessary to receive this aid.
We are very grateful to the EU as a whole for all the help they have done and are doing for us. We will continue to move in this direction. On the other hand, this issue has acquired a great political load, so in order to avoid any insinuations, the government does not rule it out, not even that, we have also decided to refrain from borrowing the second part. The main motive is that we have gradually started to reduce the foreign debt, we have very good, strong, double-digit economic growth," Gharibashvili said.
