A joke, a slip up or real political agendas? - Irakli Gharibashvili's statement, where he "joked" about the occupied territories of Georgia, Tamta Mikeladze, Director of the Policy Program of the Social Justice Center, assesses as a dangerous message:
I do not know whether you observed or not. Gharibashvili joked with some media today that we refused the EU because Russia would return Abkhazia and South Ossetia tomorrow.
At the very least, the joke on this topic by the Prime Minister is out of place and unserious.
But in my opinion, in fact, this experience revealed his true outlook and perhaps also his political goals in relation to this issue.
The fact that the government does not understand the importance of democratization of the country and the political and social mechanisms of the European Union in connection with the goals of security and conflict transformation, and sees it as an oppositional interest in resolving conflicts, this is a difficult reality." Tamta Mikeladze wrote.
