The ombudsman appealed to the prosecutor's office to launch criminal proceedings against Alt-Info founder Zurab Makharadze and cleric Spiridon Tskipurishvili.
The case concerns the July 5 violence in which 53 journalists were injured. As Lomjaria explains, the videos released by the media show that Zurab Makharadze was announcing violence against members of "Tbilisi Pride" and "Shame" until July 5, while he was also talking about violence against journalists. According to Lomjaria, Makharadze not only announced the violence, but also directly led it on July 5.
As for Spiridon Tskipurishvili, according to Lomjaria, Tskipurishvili publicly called on the groups gathered on Rustaveli Avenue to resort to violence.
"The Public Defender has the right to request the initiation of criminal proceedings. I have used this authority and have already applied to the Prosecutor's Office to initiate criminal proceedings against the citizens Zurab Makharadze and Spiridon Tskipurishvili," Nino Lomjaria said.
Exactly 2 months have passed since the July 5 violence. Unpunished perpetrators, leaders and organizers who escaped responsibility - this is the result of the so-called rally, where radicals beat journalists mercilessly, 53 members of the media were severely beaten.
