The Ministry Of Internal Affairs, after a 40-day search, has arrested 1 person on charges of murdering Australian citizen Shanae Brooke.
As Kakha Muradashvili, Deputy Director of the Tbilisi Police Department, stated at a briefing held at the agency, R.M., born in 1988, a citizen of Georgia, was charged with premeditated murder was arrested.
Several hundred investigative actions were carried out. More than 200 people were interviewed, including friends, employees, neighbors of the deceased woman, people working and being there in Mtatsminda Park on the day of the crime. Based on the information received from them, in order to identify the culprit, a photorobot was created, which was sent to all operative units.
Shanae Brooke's movement routes were examined and videos of Shanae Brooke's movement on the day of the incident were viewed. As well as the records of several dozen video surveillance cameras located on the scene of the incident, her temporary residence and the streets adjacent to Mtatsminda Park, owned by the Public Security Management Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and private facilities, - said Muradashvili.
He also spoke about the measures taken in the framework of international police cooperation and legal assistance:
"We interviewed a friend of Shanae Brooke in the United States, with whom Shanai Brooke had communication before her death, through a social network. Also, biological studies of the alleged perpetrator removed from the scene were sent to 194 Interpol member states for comparison with DNA bases.
Biological samples were taken from several dozen people allegedly involved in the crime, and genetic tests were ordered. A detailed interrogation of each of them was carried out, the information given by them to the investigation alibis, where they were at the time of Shanae Brooke's death, was verified by various investigative actions. As a result of complex and multifaceted investigative measures, the circle of the above-mentioned persons has been reduced to a minimum, and, according to the conclusion of the genetic examination, the identity of the accused has been unequivocally confirmed," said Kakha Muradashvili.
The case is being investigated under Article 108 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment for a term of 7 to 15 years.
