According to the lawyer of Nika Melia, the chairman of the United National Movement, Melia is against amnesty. The relevant statement was made by the lawyer at the trial. Earlier, he asked the judge of the case, Nino Chakhnashvili, if during her time as a judge had she the opportunity to ask the accused whether he agreed with the amnesty.
Judge Nino Chakhnashvili did not answer the defense's question, while Sadzaglishvili explained that it was the first time the court had asked the defendant for amnesty.
"Actually, it is clear that the question was rhetorical, this is an unprecedented case, and it happens because of Nika Melia and that is why this record appeared in the law. Nika Melia is against the amnesty of September 7, 2021," said Dimitri Sadzaglishvili.
On September 7, the Parliament of Georgia approved the draft law on amnesty for cases of June 20-21 in the third reading. The draft law has been developed by the Georgian Dream.
