"Azerbaijanis have a wise leader who cares about the development of their country and the well-being of their people," Garibashvili said, adding that mediating between Azerbaijan and Armenia was "absolutely his initiative."
Gharibashvili today thanked the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia for showing trust and reaching an agreement.
"Acting as a mediator between Azerbaijan and Armenia was absolutely my initiative. First I went to President Aliyev, I want to show deep respect for him. Azerbaijanis have a truly wise leader who cares about the development of their country and the well-being of their people. I had a conversation with him and that’s where the idea was born. Then I went to Yerevan with Mr. Fashinyan. I would also like to express my respect for him and also, I would like to express my gratitude for the trust that I have personally received from President Aliyev and Prime Minister Fashinyan. It was all based on trust, the idea developed spontaneously. The visits were in May, we worked all May, I had a number of phone calls with President Aliyev and Prime Minister Fashinyan, and at the end it was my few hours before two o'clock in the morning talking to the leaders of the two countries and thanking both leaders that this trust was built and an agreement reached. Of course, thanks to our American friends who were involved in the process, and we did it all together," Gharibashvili said.
