According to Melia, the reason is that the ruling party no longer trusts the president who distanced herself from them, and there are fears that Zurabishvili may pardon Saakashvili.

"Their most trusted prosecutors have been instructed to file a new case against Mikheil Saakashvili because they no longer trust Ms. Zurabishvili and suggest that Ms. Zurabishvili may pardon Mr. Saakashvili and drop all charges within two minutes, and so they are trying to start a new case.
