Mikheil Saakashvili has been arrested

The third President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili has been arrested - Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili said at a special briefing.

Irakli Gharibashvili released a statement regarding the arrest:

"I would like to inform the public that the third President of Georgia, the wanted Mikheil Saakashvili, has been arrested and he has been transferred to a penitentiary institution. Our law enforcers have held a high-level detention of the wanted Mikheil Saakashvili. Our law enforcement agencies had prior information about his movement from Ukraine to Georgia and this process was under full control. Relevant measures were taken, the agencies worked in a coordinated manner and such time and place were selected that there were minimal factors hindering the arrest, "Irakli Gharibashvili said.
