A residential building on 26 May Street in Batumi recently collapsed. The information about this was initially spread by "Batumelebi".

The cause of the incident is unknown, locals are talking about different versions.

Fire and rescue brigades are mobilized on the spot and evacuation of the population from the side buildings has started. No casualties have been reported so far.

According to an eyewitness, a child, who was found in the rubble of a building collapsed on May 26 Street in Batumi, is one year and three months old. They said the child was in a car parked near the building when it collapsed.

"I heard a huge explosion, I ran out of the side building, I saw a whole entrance collapsed. A car was standing next to it, in which there was a year and a half old baby. The mother was holding a 20-day-old baby in her arms, outside, while her husband and baby were in the car. Thankfully, no slabs of concrete fell on the wife. The child was injured in the leg, it was broken, in the child was in a state of shock, he was barely dragged out by the ambulance," the eyewitness said.

The woman names the ongoing works as the reason for the collapse of the building, due to which, according to her, the building was damaged:

"They keep drilling, they go on about it 24 hours a day, they drill everything. The architectural integrity is broken, the government does not take into account the complaints," she said.
