The third president of Georgia addresses the soldiers in the 12th penitentiary institution in Rustavi, who are on a hunger strike in solidarity with Mikheil Saakashvili.
Mikheil Saakashvili writes that the health condition of one of them, Roman Shamatava, is critical and calls on them to stop the hunger strike immediately.
"I heard that the soldiers in prison are on hunger strike as a show of solidarity. I also heard that the condition of at least one of them, Roman Shamatava, is very serious. Roman Shamatava is a national hero of Georgia.
I want not to ask you, but as your former Supreme Commander-in-Chief, to demand an immediate end to the hunger strike. My sacrifice is enough at this point too. With brotherly love, Mikheil Saakashvili," the letter reads.
Eka Kherkheulidze, a member of the United National Movement, introduced the letter to the media.
