"Taking Mikheil Saakashvili to a civilian clinic is not his privilege, on the contrary - taking him to a prison hospital will be personal revenge," the Droa party said in response to the issue of hospitalization of Georgia's third president.
According to the party statement, Mikheil Saakashvili has been on hunger strike for 26 days and his condition could worsen at any time, so it is necessary that he be placed in a third-class civil clinic.
"The government is lying when it says that only a prison hospital is considered for the treatment of prisoners. In 2020, 585 prisoners were transferred to a civilian hospital, which once again shows that the Georgian Dream is apparent in its personal revenge and politically motivated persecution against Mikheil Saakashvili. Taking Mikheil Saakashvili to a civilian clinic is not his privilege, on the contrary - taking him to a prison hospital would be personal revenge.
It is the obligation of each of us, regardless of political sympathies and sentiments, to end the political revenge once and for all, to renounce the policy of destruction and hatred of each other that the "Georgian Dream" offers us. Regardless of the attitude towards Mikheil Saakashvili, every person deserves health, protection of the right to life and the right to be brought to fair justice," the statement reads.
"Droa" notes that the government has a direct obligation to ensure Saakashvili's health and personal safety. According to them, the responsibility for the health, life and safety of the former president lies entirely with the Georgian government.
The party appeals to the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia, international and local non-governmental organizations to use all the levers at their disposal to protect the health and life rights of the prisoner, the third president.
