The group of experts of the Alternative Commission together with the Center for Empathy has completed the work on the investigation carried out on the fact of torture by the penitentiary system against the third President of Georgia.
The commission was staffed by seven doctors, and the report reflects the refusal to provide qualified medical care to Mikheil Saakashvili and the attempt to conceal medical records from doctors, as well as the violent actions taken against the third president during his transfer to the Gldani prison.
"It is noteworthy that Mikheil Saakashvili was subjected to various forms of degrading treatment, psychological pressure while in prison, and during his transfer to the eighteenth institution he was subjected to psychological torture as well as physical torture and attempted involuntary medical intervention which puts his life at risk and requires immediate action in the form of transferring the patient to another civilian clinic. At the same time, due to the intensity and duration of the pressure, which is reflected in the duration of the hunger strike and the refusal of medical assistance, is directly aimed to exact political revenge, discrimination against Mikheil Saakashvili and misinformation of the public, we consider that such unlawful and violent measures should be considered as the torture of an imprisoned politician"
Said the report, which will be sent to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg today.
