According to Mikheil Saakashvili's lawyer, Nika Gvaramia, Mikheil Saakashvili's situation is worsening and the solution is to end the regime through snap elections. This is what he said after he left the Gldani prison, where he visited Mikheil Saakashvili.
The Georgian society has to agree - if we along with the regime tolerate all of this, then we are not worthy of anything. If we do not tolerate the regime, but speak of how bad his condition is, but what we can do, then we are not worthy anything either. There is only one solution, we do not tolerate it, we show intolerance out loud and we demand an end to all this, including putting an end to the regime, through early elections, there is no other way, this regime will kill this man, I have no doubt about it," Nika Gvaramia said.
According to Nika Gvaramia, Mikheil Saakashvili is very sick, he was walking "from wall to wall" to meet him and "cannot stand normally.
It is already too much for me to talk about his health condition. The only thing I can say is that Mikheil Saakashvili was not this colour when I came in a few days ago, he was not this weak, the man was leaning against the wall so to speak, and in fact he could not stand on his feet normally. I am already doubting how right it is to bring him down to see me, I don't know, I feel uncomfortable myself because it has to happen because of me.
No matter the case, this man practically no longer has the ability to move. He stood up a few times and it wasn't that he was just dizzy, the man is stumbling and can't restrain himself. I asked him to sit down. Mikheil Saakashvili is not just feeling bad, Mikheil Saakashvili is feeling very bad. In my estimation, I say again, I'm not a doctor but it is unfortunate that he is left to my diagnosis and the diagnosis of other lawyers or individuals who visit him. I think the countdown has already started and I don't know how it his condition will continue," Nika Gvaramia said.
Today Nika Gvaramia reacted to the refusal of entry of the Public Defender of Ukraine Lyudmila Denisova into the Gldani prison. According to him, a disaster is happening in Georgia, that the Ombudsman of Ukraine is not allowed to visit her citizen at a time when even Russia is not doing that.
I find this very bad. The Ombudsman of Ukraine is one of the most influential Ombudsmen in Europe. First of all, she is the Public Defender of Ukraine, a country of 40 million people and the largest European country in terms of territory. The Public Defender of Ukraine, friends, was allowed in Russia, to visit Sentsov, and Russia sent daily information about Sentsov, about his health condition, what procedure is being carried out, etc., daily.
Russia acts like a state, like a totalitarian state, but as a state, a disaster is happening in Georgia. The Ombudsman was halted, forced to wait for an hour and with practically no communication with any member of the government. The Minister of Justice does not pick up the phone when he doesn't want to and the Speaker of Parliament awkwardly shuffles and lies that he himself could not reach him. And she is not allowed to visit her own citizen, which is directly within her mandate, and the refusal is at least an unfriendly gesture towards a friendly state," says Nika Gvaramia.
Mikheil Saakashvili's lawyer, Nika Gvaramia, also claims that the defence has suggested that the Strasbourg court should take him to a civilian hospital as a form of ensuring his health and safety.
As Nika Gvaramia explains the Strasbourg Court based on the information provided by the parties must assess whether the institution where Mikheil Saakashvili is currently staying is adequate for treatment, and only after that will it make a judicial decision.
Nika Gvaramia himself is convinced that Georgian authorities cannot prove that the medical facility in the Gldani prison has appropriate equipment and adequate conditions for treatment.
"To ensure his health and safety, we offered the Strasbourg court to take Mikheil Saakashvili to a civilian hospital. Strasbourg said that the state should provide it with a position, and it itself would check if it is adequate and It will give us an answer in 24 hours.
That is not adequate and Strasbourg itself wrote that there is an irrefutable danger and of course we will satisfy it is a threat of irreversible damage to life, so of course they will satisfy it, the state must prove it and it can never prove it, everybody knows that.
Of course we wanted more, we wanted a civilian clinic to be mentioned instantly, but it's perfectly rational that Strasbourg said I would ask for information, that it's relevant. The state cannot prove it, it is a cockroach institute, what are we even talking about, a CT is being installed today, no one knows when it will be functional and no one knows what the CT will change," said Nika Gvaramia.
Mikheil Saakashvili's lawyer Nika Gvaramia responded to a statement by the Deputy Minister of Health, who said that after Mikheil Saakashvili was transferred to a medical facility there was no need for the concilium.
Nika Gvaramia called the statement shameful and said it is shameful when the Ministry of Health fails to fulfill its mandate.
"Tamar Gabunia's statement is shameful, it is shameful to hide the Minister of Health, it is shameful for this ministry, let alone the Ministry of Justice and the penitentiary system, when health care does not use its powers when human life is at stake.
It is also shameful, they should decide whether this council exists or not, because the minister of justice has said it exists and the penitentiary department has said it has not been abolished. They should at least decide amongst themselves, what they are doing, but their main objective is the death of Mikheil Saakashvili, in that, they are in complete agreement," Nika Gvaramia said.
