"This is a small gift that can be given to the opposition" | Kobakhidze sees no need to adopt constitutional amendments

Irakli Kobakhidze, chairman of the Georgian Dream, sees no need for constitutional amendments.

According to him, if the parliament adopts constitutional amendments, they should come into force from 2024 and will not affect early elections. He also notes that the threshold cannot be lowered from 5% to 2%.

The reason for the Dream chairman is the "behaviour" of his opponents, he called the ruling party's acceptance of the changes a "gift".

"A lot will depend on the behaviour and actions of different actors. It is a small gift that can be given to the opposition and whether that gift is given to them or not, ultimately will depend on our goodwill.

First, we must make sure that there is a desire in the spectrum of the opposition to change existing polarised environment, if they show this desire then we can make one decision, if they don't show it then we can make another decision, because low threshold in itself is prone to instability, this is the main drawback of the low threshold," - Irakli Kobakhidze said.
