The third President of Georgia's trial on the border crossing case has begun at the Tbilisi City Court.

Mikheil Saakashvili is unable to attend the hearing, where the admissibility of evidence will be discussed, due to his deteriorating health. His attorneys will be announcing their position at the hearing.

The defence wants the public to watch another case brought by the government against Mikheil Saakashvili.

"Unfortunately Mikheil Saakashvili cannot attend the current process, he cannot use this process for relations with the Georgian society, but of course it doesn't make much difference in legal terms because his position is fully represented by his lawyers. The defense will do everything for the process to be public," - the lawyer said.

There are 5 defendants in the case of illegal border crossing. Elguja Tsomaya appeared on the defendant's bench together with Mikheil Saakashvili on the same charges. Giorgi Narimanidze, father and son Tsotsoria's were arrested for helping the third president.
