The state lost the May 17th case in the Strasbourg Court and is ordered to pay 193,500 euros

The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg has ordered the Georgian state to pay 193,500 euros for failing to provide security to the activists on 17th of May 2013.

Nika Simonishvili, head of the Georgian Young Lawyers' Association, disseminated the information.

"The Strasbourg court has ordered the state to pay 193,500 euros for failing to ensure the safety of the activists and properly investigate the crimes of 17th of May 2013.

It will cost the state far more for being lazy and encouraging violence during the July 5 events," Nika Simonishvili wrote.

"Tbilisi Pride" writes that according to the decision of the European Court of Justice, on May 17, 2013 :

  • LGBTQ activists and community members were subjected to inhuman treatment (Article 3) due to discrimination (Article 14);
  • The right to peaceful assembly of LGBTQ persons and organisations has been violated (Article 11) in a discriminatory manner (Article 14).
