This is an open message to independent institutions that they will be punished - an emergency statement from the opposition on the bill to abolish the inspector

The parliamentary opposition is alarmed by the majority bill that calls for the abolition of the State Inspectorate and believes it is a signal to all government officials that they will be punished for doing their jobs in good faith.

"Apart from undermining the institution, the bill is an open message from the majority, to all independent institutions and public officials that they will be punished for doing their jobs," Ana Natsvlishvili told a joint briefing of the opposition in Parliament and the country's international partner.

The opposition demands to stop discussing the draft law, to involve the office of inspector in it and to conduct all kinds of restructuring only after the term of the current inspector, Londa Toloraya, expires.

The Office of State Inspector was created in 2019 by Georgian Dream itself at the request of European partners and its function was to detect crimes committed by state institutions or at the investigation stage.
