"There should be a moratorium on the Saakashvili, Khazaradze, Melia, Gvaramia and other politically motivated cases" | Giorgi Margvelashvili

Published:

Georgia's fourth president Giorgi Margvelashvili said after a visit to Mikheil Saakashvili that a moratorium should be declared on the political cases. On this context Margvelashvili focused on the case of Mikheil Saakashvili, the Khazaradze/Japaridze case, the Nika Melia case and the Nika Gvaramia case.

"These cases are the Saakashvili case, Khazaradze case, Melia case, Gvaramia case. These are the cases that are considered politically motivated by the majority of society. This does not mean that we are saying that they are guilty or not guilty, this means that we should stop this process in its revaluation and therefore, during the conversation around the table, where the Georgian society and political spectrum should gather, there should be no precondition for continuing prosecution or imprisonment of the participants. Without any legal assessment, the precondition for this relationship should be that all those who are around this table talking about a unified and holistic policy of Georgia on issues such as geopolitical challenges will not be subjected to any kind of imprisonment and any kind of persecution. There should be a moratorium on these cases for this period," said Giorgi Margvelashvili.
