Georgia's third president addressed the four defendants on his return from the courtroom and apologised for what they had endured.
Mikheil Saakashvili says he did not know any of them.
"I want to first of all thank them for being decent, hardworking, Georgian people and I want to apologize to them for the fact that these very decent people, who are just earning their daily bread and lost so much time because of me.
I urged them from the start to write everything they were told, because it doesn't matter, and I apologise again for the trouble these people have to endure because of me. The last thing I wanted was for these people to be oppressed in any way. You see, I don't even know my accomplices, I actually haven't heard who Giorgi Narimanidze is in life, and I heard about the Tsotsorias from TV," said Mikhail Saakashvili.
