Prosecutor's office does not recognise Mikheil Saakashvili as a victim

The Georgian Prosecutor's Office responds to a request by lawyers for the third president to be granted victim status.

The statement says that the case of Mikhail Saakashvili's possible inhuman treatment by the State Prosecutor's Office needs to be thoroughly investigated and until appropriate procedural steps are taken the agency is "unable" to make any final decision, including recognising the individual as a victim.

For this reason, the Prosecutor's Office did not grant the defence's motion to recognise Mikheil Saakashvili as a victim, calling it "unsubstantiated".
