Two more people died in occupied Tskhinvali, who were not given permission to have medical treatment in Tbilisi

According to the Democracy Research Institute (DRI), two more people died as a result of the de facto Tskhinvali's policy of isolation in January.

According to DRI, the reason was the change of the chief doctor of the Akhalgori district hospital in December last year.

Specifically, after representatives of the de facto administration of Tskhinvali inspected the hospital and allegedly "deciphered" a corruption scheme, chief doctor Jemal Bedoev was dismissed and was temporarily replaced by Monika Dzhioeva.

The organization writes that after Dzhioeva's appointment it became more difficult to transfer patients to Tbilisi-controlled territory. By her order patients are being transferred for treatment only to Tskhinvali, although the road connecting Akhalgori and Tskhinvali is particularly challenging for patients due to difficult terrain.

Due to the above circumstances, the condition of several patients living in Akhalgori became critical, which in two cases ended in death.

"In early January, a 70-year-old man was admitted to Akhalgori hospital with a heart attack. Despite the desire of his relatives to have the man be treated in Tbilisi-controlled territory, he was transferred to Tskhinvali due to the categorical refusal of Monika Dzhioeva. The man died on the way.

In January, a woman from Akhalgori, despite her request, was not treated in Tbilisi and was transferred to Tskhinvali. After surgery in Tskhinvali, the patient's condition worsened. The woman was taken to the Tbilisi-controlled area only after the situation worsened. The patient, who is still in a critical condition, continues to receive treatment in Tbilisi.

On January 12, a man from Akhalgori, who was in a critical condition, died in Tskhinvali. The head doctor of the hospital did not allow him to be taken to Tbilisi," the DRI said.
