European Council President Charles Michel and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen have sent a letter to Mikheil Saakashvili.

According to lawyer Giorgi Mshveneradze, he has already delivered the letter to the third president, which mentions his health condition and reminds the Georgian government of its human rights obligations:

"I gave him the letter that was sent to Mikheil Saakashvili yesterday from the offices of Charles Michel and Ursula von der Leyen. The letter pays particular attention to the state of his health. The Georgian authorities are urged to recall their obligations under the European Convention on Human Rights.

At the same time, they will continue to monitor the ongoing processes, including the particular importance of a fair trial, and note that the implementation of the right to a fair trial is an obligation under the Association Agreement that Georgia must fulfil. This letter was sent to me yesterday on behalf of Karl Hartzel as Saakashvili's lawyer," said Giorgi Mshveneradze.
