Materials will be made public only if the safety of the participants of the process will not be jeopardized - Toloraia answers Mikheil Saakashvili

Disclosure of information about the materials of the criminal case and the progress of the investigation before the investigation is over requires special care," reads the statement of the state inspector, distributed by the office of Londa Toloraia in response to the appeal of Mikheil Saakashvili:

"The criminal procedure law strictly defines the circle of persons who have the right of access to the materials of the criminal case. Especially in a criminal case in which the investigation has not been completed and the final decision has not been made.

Therefore, the disclosure of criminal case materials (including video recordings) and information about the course of the investigation requires special caution. Especially in circumstances where the service has not received the conclusions of significant expertise, including conclusions confirming the authenticity of video recordings.

At the same time, the lawyers of the third President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili (who are provided with full information about the investigation and are able to communicate and present opinions without delay) know that their consent and/or desire alone cannot be the basis for the disclosure of the case materials. The decision to disclose materials will be made only if the rights and safety of the participants of the process will not be jeopardized and it will not impede the investigation.

The service will remain in active coordination with lawyers and will continue to provide them with information about the investigation," the agency said in a statement.
