Mikheil Saakashvili's lawyers filed a motion at the beginning of the trial to remove the barrier and sit next to the president. The lawyers say this is necessary for them to fully exercise their right to defense.
The panel of judges consisting of Nino Eleishvili, Maia Kokiashvili and Liana Orkodashvili did not grant the request.
The judge explained that they cannot change the rule and are sitting in the allocated seat in the courtroom due to their status.
There was a commotion at the beginning of the session. There was also a verbal altercation between the prosecutor and lawyers.
As for the second appeal, the lawyers demanded the court to oblige the penitentiary to ensure absolute right for life and health of the prisoner, provide Mikheil Saakashvili with the right to see his personal doctor and the Empathy experts and order the penitentiary to ensure compliance with this. According to Nika Gvaramia, it is necessary for the court to issue a ruling:
"We demand that the court issue an order and decree with specific content regarding the director general of the penitentiary service. The previous court did not even issue a verdict because it is not possible for it to have issued a verdict and for us not to have it. The judge said: "I will make a ruling to be carried out, but the ruling is not enough because the obligation to carry it out is already written in the law," Nika Gvaramia said.
