We are guided by the mandate of or people, not the agenda of the UNM - Papuashvili on Ukraine and sanctions

Published:

Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili says Georgia is guided by security interests when imposing sanctions against Russia. According to him, the National Movement and other opposition parties are "making hysteria," and the ruling team will not be guided by their agenda.

Papuashvili said the UN was also trying to push its domestic political agenda in this situation.

"Regarding sanctions, on the one hand we are guided by the security interests of our country and our people and the security interests of the Ukrainian people, so the government of Georgia, based on these principles and goals, will definitely stand by Ukraine. [...]

Regarding the hysteria created by the UNM or some other opposition parties, whether it is sanctions, resolutions etc. Of course, we are guided by the mandate of our people and not by the agenda, diktat or agreement with the UNM,". -  Papuashvili said.

According to him, the main goal is ensuring security and the Georgian government will make decisions based on the aforementioned principles.

Papuashvili says that not only does he  support them, he calls on Western partners to be firm and clear in their decisions.
