Why don't we demand exactly the same sanctions against Abkhazia and "South Ossetia" as are now being imposed on Donetsk and Lugansk? - Mikheil Saakashvili

Georgia's third president Mikheil Saakashvili responds to the sanctions imposed on Donetsk and Lugansk in Ukraine's occupied territories, writing that the Georgian government should now demand the same sanctions on Abkhazia and "South Ossetia".

He said the government's refusal to demand sanctions was a grave mistake.

"Why shouldn't we demand exactly the same sanctions on Abkhazia and South Ossetia that are now being imposed on Donetsk and Luhansk?" In 2008, the US administration of President Bush drafted a package of such sanctions, but because of the global economic crisis, the signing was reconsidered.

It is now a grave mistake for the government not to call for sanctions. If the same sanctions are imposed, no one will build hotels in Abkhazia, no representatives of the separatist regimes will be invited and "citizens" will not be allowed to travel. They will only be able to go to Russia, and this will significantly increase Georgia's chances of reintegrating peacefully into the regions in the end.

As the Chairman of the National Reform Council of Ukraine, I have visited "Yuzhmash" in Dnipro many times. This is an enterprise that has missile and nuclear technologies. It wouldn't be a big secret if I said that the country needs not to develop nuclear weapons, they can very quickly produce missiles that have a very powerful non-nuclear charge that destroys the target at the level of tactical nuclear missiles. Also, Ukraine has a lot of other, not only Soviet, technology.

The head of "Ukrainoboromprom", my old friend Yuri Gusev, who was once removed by Poroshenko only because he publicly supported my appointment as prime minister and Zelensky brought him back, has implemented very important reforms. He also invited Revaz Charbadze, one of the founders of our Delta Company, as a consultant on my recommendation. I expect them to make a breakthrough very soon. They still have super specialists and great potential," Mikheil Saakashvili wrote.
