637 in favour, 13 against | MEPs back Ukraine's swift EU accession plan

Ukraine's fast track accession plan was supported by 637 out of 676 MEPs. 13 refused, 26 abstained.

Earlier today one of the fiercest debates took place in Brussels where European MPs spoke openly and firmly about the Russian occupation and expressed a firm and united position in support of Ukraine.

The historic session began with a stirring speech by Zelensky, followed by a round of applause. Prove you are on our side - these words by Zelensky were delivered against a backdrop of Russian militants bombing populated areas once again.

Shortly before the vote, Ukrainians gathered in front of the European Parliament building to show their support for lawmaker Roberta Metsola and pledged their support, after which the Ukrainian national anthem was played.
