We have paid a high price in 2008 and I always remind our friends that 20% of Georgian territory is occupied and we are living in our territory with Russian soldiers - stated Prime Minister Garibashvili in a joint press conference after the meeting with his Polish counterpart.
Garibashvili spoke about the August war, recalled the support of Lech Kaczynski and other leaders, but did not forget to berate the then Georgian government:
"I would like to remind everyone that no sanctions were imposed against Russia by the then world leaders after the August war. I would also like to mention President Kaczynski, who at the time loudly called for Western leaders to make drastic and brave decisions regarding European integration of Georgia...
Unfortunately, the Georgian government at that time did not impose sanctions against Russia. Only diplomatic relations were broken off. On the contrary, the then government sold strategic energy companies to Russian state-owned companies, abolished unilateral visa regulations and supported Russia's accession to the World Trade Organisation. All this after the war, and as a result Georgia is still occupied," said Garibashvili.
The Georgian prime minister claims to be well aware of the tragedy now unfolding in Ukraine and that the Georgian government is helping the warring country at all levels.
