Russian occupants abducted a Georgian ex-soldier from the municipality of Gori

The State Security Service responds to the abduction of Georgian citizen Levan Machabeli by Russian occupants.

The agency's statement is offered unchanged:

Russian occupation forces illegally detained a Georgian citizen near the occupied village of Zemo Artsevi.

Having received information about the illegal detention, the State Security Service activated the hotline operated through the EU Monitoring Mission. Information about the incident was immediately transmitted to the international partners and the Co-Chairs of the Geneva International Discussions.

Here we would like to point out that the information that has been circulating that the illegally detained person is operating in the armed forces does not correspond to reality.

The central Government of Georgia has employed all mechanisms at its disposal to release illegally detained persons as soon as possible.

The harmful practice of illegal detentions restricts the basic right to free movement, significantly worsens the security situation on the ground and threatens the situation in the region," the SSG wrote.

Machabeli is accused of crossing the occupation line. The puppet regime also accuses him of attempted subversion.

The occupation regime published a video of Levan Machabeli, although it is not known when or where the recording was made.

"How do you kill children, you cowards! I am a veteran of 2008. I remember the days when we were attacked by these spineless Russians. I also remember your boys, the Ukrainians, standing next to me. Glory to Georgia, Glory to Ukraine," Levan Machabeli. said in the video.

The family does not know the details of what happened.

"For two days his phone was disconnected and we could not contact him. Then the security service called us and told us that the Russians had been detained. How and where he was detained, I don't know. Negotiations are going on. I know that his condition is stable. I want to ask the Red Cross and anyone who can, to help us get my husband back," said Levan Machabeli's wife.
