Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili dismissed Foreign Minister Davit Zalkaliani. He was appointed ambassador of Georgia to the United States. Prime Minister recently made a statement on the subject.
"Georgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Davit Zalkaliani has been appointed Ambassador to the United States as Georgia's Ambassador," Garibashvili said.
Garibashvili thanked Zalkaliani and noted that the U.S. is the most important strategic partner for Georgia. In his opinion, when the government appoints such a person with such a rich diplomatic experience to such a responsible position, is very telling.
The prime minister appointed Ilia Darchiashvili, the former head of government administration, as minister of foreign affairs.
"He has an excellent education. Experience, and I believe that Ilia will be a successful Minister of Foreign Affairs. Many years ago he worked in the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, before that he was the head of the Municipal Development Fund and for the last 4 years he was Georgia's ambassador to Poland," Garibashvili said.
Darchiashvili thanked the prime minister for his trust.
