Assault on lawyer Shota Tutberidze: prison officer revealed, verdict issued

According to the Special Investigative Service, an employee of the penitentiary institution is accused of abuse of power against the lawyer of Georgia's third president, Shota Tutberidze.

According to the agency, in order to avoid the cameras, he took the lawyer to the sitting room, began to harass the lawyer, and tried to assault him, at which time he was detained.

The investigation established that on March 2, 2022 a verbal confrontation took place between an employee of the #16 penitentiary facility and lawyer Shota Tutberidze
Then the defendant, in order to avoid the CCTV cameras, took the lawyer to the sitting room and began to harass him. Upon leaving the room, the Correctional Officer exceeded his official authority and went to Shota Tutberidze for physical retaliation, attempted to assault him, during which he was detained by other officers of the institution.

As a result of the wrongful actions of the accused, the rights of the victim Shota Tutberidze were violated, the order was disrupted and the normal functioning of Penitentiary Institution No. 16 was hindered," the report reads.

The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia issued a ruling against the former employee of the Department of Corrections on charges of committing a crime under Article 333 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

The Special Investigation Service continues to investigate the case.

Lawyer Shota Tutberidze was attacked by one of the employees as he was leaving the Rustavi 12th prison. First the accused verbally insulted the third president, and then he verbally and physically confronted the lawyer. There is also an audio recording of what happened.
