The third president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili publishes another letter from prison and recalls the 1991 referendum on Ukrainian independence. Mikhail Saakashvili writes that at that time he was studying in Ukraine and also took part in the voting.
"The referendum on independence took place in Ukraine on December 1, 1991. I was studying there then, and Zviad Gamsakhurdia appealed to us Georgians living in Ukraine to support them in this referendum. After Zviad's call, I went and registered (it turned out to be the last day of registration).
Of course, I voted on the first, which I am still very proud of. After voting on Maidan, I went to the main post office in Kyiv and on behalf of myself and other Georgians sent President Gamsakhurdia a telegram thanking him for his support of Ukraine. This telegram of mine may still be stored somewhere in the archives," Mikheil Saakashvili wrote.
