Public Defender of Georgia Nino Lomjaria says the doctors' report on the state of health of the third president is alarming.
He said that some of the council's recommendations have been implemented since January, but the main recommendations concerning Mikheil Saakashvili's psychophysical rehabilitation have not been implemented, exacerbating the situation.
"The information I received from the doctors is really disturbing. I was also shocked by the severity of what the doctors were talking about. The fact is that for several months, i.e., after January, we monitored whether the recommendations we made were being implemented by the penitentiary institution. Some of the recommendations were indeed implemented when he was taken to the republican hospital and subjected to various kinds of examinations, although the main recommendations for his psychophysical rehabilitation failed and were not implemented. Because of this, as you can see, the situation is getting worse. It seems to have put us in a difficult situation today," Lomjaria said.
She also quoted a small excerpt from the doctors' report, which stated that continuing treatment without following the recommendations would be ineffective and make the patient's condition even worse.
The experts' main recommendation from the report is that: "Continued medication treatment without adherence to the indicated recommendations in such conditions would be ineffective, would not produce further results, and would lead to a dramatic deterioration of the patient's condition, which could lead to irreversible results."
This is an assessment and prognosis of independent experts," said the ombudsman.
She once again recommended that the state fulfill its obligation and provide the patient with adequate treatment.
"I can say that it is indeed the state's responsibility to take care of the health of every inmate. We see that some of the recommendations for his treatment are not being implemented, Mikheil Saakashvili's health condition has deteriorated and the prognosis is very grave unless the environment changes, unless the forms of medical care, the strategy and so on change. I would recommend that the state fulfill its obligation and provide the patient with the adequate treatment he needs today," the ombudsman said.
