We believe that a decision on his proper treatment must be taken immediately, including by providing medical care outside the country. We would like to remind the public that according to the Alternative Medicine Council established under the auspices of the Public Defender of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili's health condition has deteriorated and he is suffering from serious physical and psychological health problems related to such diseases as anorexia and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Accordingly, the prisoner should be provided with appropriate medical care immediately. Any motive of political expediency must be excluded from such a decision, and the authorities concerned must be guided only by the standard of protection of the right to life, health and security of the person.
In view of all of the foregoing, we demand that the Third President of Georgia immediately be provided with the medical services necessary to ensure his basic rights to life and health. This is based on the state's constitutional and international legal obligations," the organizations wrote.
