"Their positions are unconvincing and unsubstantiated..."| Nino Lomjaria responded to Kobakhidze's accusations

Public defender of Georgia Nino Lomjaria reacted to the statement of the Georgian Dream chairman Irakli Kobakhidze, who said today that those who demand Mikheil Saakashvili's release want to start a war in Georgia by any means.

As Lomjaria noted, the positions of the ruling team are unconvincing and unsubstantiated.

"Perhaps it is easier to criticize an opponent like this, in this case the Public Defender. However, their positions are very unconvincing and unsubstantiated. Notably, perhaps, so far we have not heard a single counter-argument to the conclusion presented yesterday by the experts. Basically we see some kind of political attacks, absurd accusations, but we have not heard any qualified, competent arguments that would question the expert assessment presented yesterday, which means there are no such arguments," the ombudsman said.

She also stressed the need for adequate treatment of Mikheil Saakashvili and said that if the recommendations are not implemented, there is a high probability that the government's actions against the third president will amount to inhuman treatment.

"We have seen that the condition has not only stabilized, but has sharply deteriorated, which means that the treatment being given is ineffective. So I made a statement yesterday, if his medical needs are not taken into account and are not met, of course there is a high probability that this will amount to inhuman treatment and the Strasbourg Court will find a violation of the article of inhuman treatment," said Nino Lomjaria.
