"To speak as if he has not been treated is, of course, completely unacceptable and out of context," Justice Minister Rati Bregadze reiterated that all the needs of the third president are being met.
"I'm going to talk about the smear campaign, let me put it bluntly, which is directed against the Penitentiary Service as well as the Ministry of Justice, and which is aimed at directly misleading the public.
We should definitely pay attention to the claim that Mikheil Saakashvili is not provided with proper medical care, which is a complete lie. Due to the fact that he has always been treated in both the 12th and 18th institutions, the public is well aware that he has been transferred to the Gori military hospital and has just recently been taken to a multi-specialty medical facility for examination," Bregadze said.
Bregadze also said it's a lie that the penitentiary service has left Mikheil Saakashvili without food.
The Minister reiterated that Saakashvili is not voluntarily exercising his right to go out in the fresh air and is being provided with full medication but selectively chooses not to take medications.
"I wasn't talking about trust or distrust. There are certain points in this [Ombudsman's Council] report, by the way, this addendum is not public, per the decision of the Public Defender's Office, and we have asked several questions to the Public Defender's Office, to whom we ask for clarification. After the prison service receives a reasoned response, it will analyze these responses, if there is a need for additional interviews with members of the group, only then we can talk about the measures that may need to be taken," the minister said.
