Due to his health condition, Mikheil Saakashvili can not attend his court trial today

The third president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, will not be able to attend today's trial due to his health condition, - his lawyer, Dimitri Sadzaglishvili said.

 According to the lawyer, several motions will be raised at the hearing where the border crossing case is being discussed.

 "Unfortunately, Mikheil Saakashvili will not be able to participate in this process due to his health condition. We will try to petition for the process, which will be aimed at protecting Mikheil Saakashvili's health and right to live.

As you know, the Council of the Public Defender has issued a conclusion, according to which Mikheil Saakashvili definitely needs proper treatment, which is physically impossible to provide in prison, but at the same time, we do not see any response from the government. Therefore, although we have no illusions about the independence of the court or any other state body in the case of Mikheil Saakashvili, we will naturally take all possible steps," the lawyer said.

 For information, doctors and experts, as well as part of the opposition and Mikheil Saakashvili's family are demanding that the third president be transferred abroad to a relevant clinic for medical treatment. The family will hold a rally with this demand today, at the Chancellery, at 19:00.
