Dimitri Khundadze, chairman of the parliamentary committee on health and social affairs, answers to the third president and says he sees no reason to meet with him. His statement is spread by Interpressnews.
Khundadze writes that in the past and now the deterioration of Mikheil Saakashvili's health was related to his volition and not to the cruel treatment by the government. According to the MP, Mikheil Saakashvili has no desire to take care of his health because of political goals.
"Mr. Mikheil, the fact is that my main profession is being a doctor, with this responsibility, without any invitation, at the initial stage of detention, when you were on hunger strike, Davit Sergeenko and I came to the prison to find out about your health, after which, the team decided to transfer you to a hospital. Unfortunately, the deterioration of your health then and today was only due to your wish, and not to abuse by the government. To the best of our ability, without any PR, we asked with Sergeenko yesterday how they were taking care of your health. We found out that you have access to everything and to all the services you need. Whether you get it or not is up to you. The fact is that your health is protected, that is my sincere wish as a doctor and as a politician, but it's too bad you don't have the willingness to do it for political reasons. So I don't see the point of our meeting, which will only have political overtones and not a real result. Moreover, I am not an expert in the field you need at the moment. My sincere advice would be to trust the doctors who are treating you and to follow their recommendations and advice," the appeal reads.
The MP writes that Mikheil Saakashvili does not change the political agenda of his arrest, which, in his opinion, is indicated by the fact that he calls for political statements from the MPs after the visit.
"As for being released from prison on the basis of the decree, I wouldn't want you to be released from prison with the diagnosis and the criteria stated there, because I don't want you to be in such a difficult position. Well, sometimes I get the impression that some of your teammates would be okay with that scenario. I assure you from your appeal that you are not changing the political agenda of incarceration. This is also evident by you urging those who will leave from your visit to make political statements afterwards. We are invited as physicians and made statements as politicians. As a doctor I advise you to take care of your health, and as a politician I urge you to take responsibility for your political activities," Khundadze wrote.
