The leader of the European People's Party, Donald Tusk, asks Georgia's third president Mikheil Saakashvili to address the party congress in Rotterdam. This was stated in a letter sent to the third president by his associate in prison, Eka Kherkheulidze.
Mikheil Saakashvili responded to Donald Tusk as follows:
"Today I received a letter from Donald Tusk. On behalf of the biggest party in Europe, the People's Party, which has the most influence in EU structures at all levels. He invites me to a convention in Rotterdam at the end of May. They offer me to attend and hold a speech.
I don't recall any other precedent of a jailed politician being so demonstratively invited. It means that they don't forget not only Ukraine, but also Georgia and me in the context of both countries. This is a great honor for me.
I do not know if my health will allow me to attend this congress and if the Georgian government will allow me to do so, but I want to thank Europe for such great moral support," Mikheil Saakashvili wrote.
